    West Arnhem Land Carbon Abatement Project 

    • Project start: 1990s. The Walfa project was the first Indigenous savanna fire management project in Australia. Work between scientists and traditional owners in the WALFA area led to the first savanna fire management methodology. The Walfa project is a recipient of a Banksia Award (2011).
    • Declaration date: 24 December 2014.
    • Applicable methodology: 1000+ rainfall zone.
    • Credits issued: 353,457 (to August 2015).
    • Funding model: Multi-year direct funding agreement (West Arnhem Fire Management Agreement (WAFMA)) with Conoco Phillips, with additional emissions offsets available as ACCUs.
    • Land tenure: Aboriginal owned land within Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area.
    • Project Owner: Walfa Limited.
